Feng Shui Simplified: Ancient Chinese Secret to a Better Life

Putting your things in storage can help you be more focused, more productive, and happier.

The ancient practice of Feng Shui has gotten a lot of hype in recent years making it seem like a new-age kind of trend, but much of it is actual true.

The basic philosophy of Feng Shui is that all matter has energy: living things, the earth and places. feng-shui-ying-yang-balance1

The energy, called Ch’i, flows though space and can be positive or negative.  It’s not a positive and negative as in good versus evil, but more like male to female.  As with many schools of thought, the final ideal is a perfect balance of the two forces as demonstrated by the YingYang. The two forces of energy should flow within each other one feeding the other in constant balance so neither is predominant.

The Practice of Feng Shui is realigning the energies in a space so that they flow more evenly and that balance is achieved.

While there are many “cures” for life difficulties that are used by many Feng Shui practitioners that have to do with Mirrors and chimes, candles, and colors, rocks and plants; one of the most basic and truly  moving recommendations of any Feng Shui consultant is to simply clean ones house.

Walk ways that are too small, stacks of books and unread magazines, piles of mail, dirty laundry and crowded workspaces and counters all cause the Ch’i to get blocked. Think of the energy in your space like a river flowing from your front door throughout your space. Can it reach all the main parts of your home or is it visually blocked by the weird placement of a chair or a coat rack that has no other place to go? Removing clutter and opening your space allows the forces of energy to flow within your home.

The results of this effort can be immediately felt. Visually, our eyes can rest, allowing our brains to stop the endless processing, if our areas are cleaner and more open. This can allow you to focus on the important tasks at hand. It also cuts down on distractions: think out of site out of mind. This allows one to get more done in a shorter period of time and be more productive. We all know how good it feels to complete a task at hand. That alone can increase self esteem which carries over into how we walk and how we project ourselves to the rest of the world.

Instead of dreading cleaning up your desk, put your intentions in the long term goal while you work. Think of how much more productive and organized you will feel. Think about how much time you will save when you simplify your bill paying tasks. Think about how you won’t get hit with late fees for misplacing your credit card statement again and how that will save you money. Assign a place for everything and put everything in its place. Put little used or archived items away where they cannot be seen. And if space is prime, please remember that at Manhattan Mini Storage, we have many convenient self storage locations in NYC  to fit even your smallest storage needs. Some of our units are less than the monthly late charges of the misplaced Visa bills!

De-Clutter and Free your Ch’i!

The rest of your life can truly prosper from simply efforts around your home. Not sure? Feeling a bit flakey for even reading this? Try one area and see how it feels. You’ll be glad you did.
