There’s more to Fleet Week in NYC than sailor-spotting and nautical-themed restaurant specials (Though nobody will argue those aren’t great ways to spend a summer day in NYC.) While you’re out enjoying the scenery this Memorial Day weekend, consider taking advantage of some of NYC’s best Fleet Week and Memorial Day events:

For The Military Buffs

Fleet Week NYC


The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum hosts Fleet Week events all week long, including Pier Displays starting at 10am every day. Our favorite events:

  • Parade of Ships – Watch naval ships as they head up the Hudson, past the official viewing post at the Intrepid. Wed 5/25, 10am-12pm
  • Air & Water Demonstrations at Coney Island – From U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard. Thurs 5/26, 10-noon
  • Memorial Day Ceremony – Annual celebration on the Flight Deck of the Intrepid, including military aircraft fly-over. Mon 5/30, 11am
  • Annual Athletic Competition: Tug of War – Watch our soldiers show off what they’re made of! Sat 5/28, 11:30am-12:30pm

For Lovers of the Arts

  • USMC Day in Times Square 3 ways to love Fleet Week NYCFeaturing performances by Navy Band NE & USMC Band. Fri 5/28, 9am-6pm
  • New York Philharmonic – Free concert at St. John the Divine Church. First-come, first-served tickets distributed onsite, on the day of the event. Mon 5/30, 8pm
  • Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit – Cruise from East 12th St South the the East Side of Washington Square Park, ending at West 3rd St. Fri 5/28-Mon 5/30, 12pm-6pm

For Hollywood & Broadway Fans

  • Intrepid Summer Movie Series – “Kick-Off Event” showing Top Gun (yay!). Fri 5/27, doors open at 7:30
  • Broadway Performance: Wicked – At the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, Pier 86. Sat 5/28, 11:30am-12:30pm
