On the Eve of 911; Get Ready for Fashion in NYC!

What does the biggest tragedy in US history, the runway and a struggling economy have in common?

On Thursday, September 10th, they all come together with Fashion’s Night Out in NYC.

fashion-night-out-nyc-09While of course New York is considered one of THE fashion capitals of the world, Fashion’s Night Out is a global enterprise which according to their website is a:

“Global initiative to promote retail, restore consumer confidence, and celebrate fashion, U.S. and international editions of Vogue are coordinating evening extravaganzas in their respective world fashion capitals”

As the headquarters of more than 800 fashion companies, employing 175,000 people, and generating $10 billion in total wages, fashion in NY is the second largest sector of industry after finance.  So while Vogue is pushing FNO as a global initiative for the world economy, they also clearly see the influence on NYC.  Vera Wang is quoted as saying most definably:

”To put it bluntly, if people don’t shop, people lose their jobs.”

In other words, help the world, help your city, help your neighbor keep their job and SHOP!

Plus, according to all reports; it’s going to be a really great night to party in NYC!

“Champagne may flow; hors d’oeuvres may be passed. Rumors of musical performances, downtown barbecues, shoe capsules, limited-edition rings, and sweepstakes abound. Apparently there will be makeovers, brow bars, and haircut stations at sundry spots, too.”

The best way to keep abreast on all the festivities look to be by following Fashion’s Night Out on Twitter, but recent Tweets from their ever running #FNO09 stream have tempting little treats such as:

Plus there are sales galore from some of the best and most well known shopping icons in NY!

Over 700 retailers and designers across New York City are confirmed participants in Fashion’s Night Out. To really be involved for the cause, make sure you pop into one of the retailers that will be selling the uber cool Fashion’s Night Out Shirts!  Included in the FNO retailer list and selling the T-shirts are some of the premier department stores of NY including Lord and Taylor, Bloomingdales, Saks, Macy’s,  Barneys and  Loehmann’s.

Just make Sure you buy a Fashion’s Night Out T-Shirt! fashions-night-out-t-shirt1

Not only do they proclaim that you have particiapated in one of the coolest NYC happenings, but….all proceeds from the sale of the official Fashion’s Night Out T-shirt will soon be donated to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.

So after an evening of famous folks, shopping and Champaign, New York can collectively remember the tragedy of September 11th and all those who lost their lives. On Fashion’s Night Out, every participating location is open to anyone and everyone. Neither tickets nor invitations are required to join in the Fashion’s Night Out festivities. Met your famous folks, get the freebies, find your designer clothes, and then, together, on Friday, we all will quietly remember.

But for Now; Shop New York,  Shop!
