Granted we have a few years until 12/20/2012 and the world is, once again, scheduled to come to an end, but are you ready?

According to some panicked sources, it might be time to get prepared!

Here’s Crisis a example: Preparedness Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide to Home Storage and Physical Survival

This survival guide is available on Amazon and according to the product description it is:

A complete guide to emergency preparedness for our uncertain times. Virtually an encyclopedia of food storage and personal preparedness, it covers topics from exactly how to design a food storage program tailored for your particular family to growing and preserving food, storing fuel, alternate energy, emergency evacuation kits, medical and dental, surviving biological, chemical and nuclear terrorism, communications, selection of firearms and other survival tools, and preparing for earthquakes. …..An absolute must for those serious about preparing for and surviving during our dangerous times.

It makes one wonder what kind of survival materials one might have in their local Manhattan Mini Storage unit.

That actually would not be a very bad idea. All the necessary items can be safely stored under lock and key, and then, when Armageddon approaches, all you have to do is get to your mini storage unit and go all Rambo like.

If you are not prepared, then you only choice might be to sing like REM:

We were alerted to this rather nice article on MainStreet.com.
Storage 101: What Are Your Options?  is written by Althea Chang and  covers the basics of Storage and the different rates of self storage facilities around the country.

The article covers the different items and reasons why one might need a self storage unit:

“Renting storage can be a great idea if you your living space is limited and your rooms and closets are are overflowing with stuff.  Seasonal clothes, keepsakes and old toys, which you may not need right away but want to keep, are just the items to put into storage.”

What to consider when looking for a mini-storage facility:

“When choosing a storage facility, before considering climate control, security access and moving, you’ll have to decide what type of facility you want, how big you want it and where.”

We do like that she remembered Manhattan Mini Storage!

“If you’re intent on keeping your things in a small space in the big city, Manhattan Mini Storage, for example, has facilities all up and down the island with spaces ranging in size from four feet by four feet to 25 feet by 40 feet. Prices start at $29 per month, though larger spaces (the largest room being 8,000 square feet) are $1.25 per square foot per month.  The biggest rooms cost about $10,000 per month,  and rent includes phone and Internet access, electrical outlets, lighting and air conditioning.  You may also be able to get a free roundtrip taxi ride for you and your belongings.”

  • Addicted to Flickr: What’s in your Storage Unit??

While we provide the places for you to store all your stuff in, we frequently don’t know what you actually store in your Manhattan Mini Storage Rental Facilities. And like anyone, curiosity killed the cat and all, we wonder…

What do people actually put into self storage?

Anyway, taking this whole social media interaction literally; we adore Flickr. Being part of the New York City landscape for as long as we have, and producing some pretty memorable billboards, people take lots of pictures of us, our adds, and our facilities and also, what they have in there!

We found this public photo stream and wow, it’s impressive even for us, how much room there is to store stuff

The caption on this photo of inside a MMS unit says:

“Dimensions of this room – 5′ by 10′ Contains 46 boxes, 4 pieces of a sectional sofa and a cute wooden airplane.”

    46-boxes-and-sectional-sofa-in-storage

Then we have the actual sofa:

“This second photo of the 5′ by 10″ Manhattan mini storage room shows the sectional sofa.”

    what-you-can-sit-in-a-5-by-10-storage-room

    And lastly, we can peek here;

“The smaller room at Manhattan Mini (17th and 10th)  is 5′ by 5′. Approximately 18 small boxes, a trunk and six plastic clothing boxes.”

The smaller room at Manhattan min (17th and 10th_ is 5' by 5'. Approximately 18 small boxes, a trunk and six plastic clothing boxes.

Forty-six boxes, 4 pieces of a sectional sofa, and a cute wooden airplane in one storage unit: Impressive!!

And that leads us to question even more: what do you have in storage?

Tell us, take a picture and we might find a feature you too!  Or come on over to our Facebook page and post them there!!

  • Yelpers say the Nicest Things!

    April 16th, 2009 by admin

We like to keep our eyes and ears open to see what folks are saying about us over at MMS.

One of the most important aspects of customer service and being a successful business is listening… and then doing something about it!

If there is a problem, we want to fix it.

If there is something that could be improved, we want to know.

And if we are doing things the right way, we want to know that too so we can keep on doing it.. ..plus it’s nice to have a pat on the back every once in a while…

The reviews over at Yelp are a nice place to get that sort of unsolicited information.

And yup, it’s really very nice to see the great things people say about Manhattan Mini Storage!

A thank you goes out to our kind reviewers:

These are the things we like to hear!
